About Us

Isaiah 58:10-11  And if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness,  and your night will become like the noonday. The LORD will guide you always;  he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land  and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

Tough Questions

I got this question from a reader of my blog. It is a great question and one that others probably have too.

God’s Heart For the Poor – A Bible Study

God’s Heart for the Poor – Bible Study

Scripture is full of references to God’s concern for those who are impoverished, vulnerable and oppressed.

The email we have waited for….

We “cleared” the US Embassy!!! We can go get our guy! We leave in a few hours for 5 days, so I have to make this short and sweet. SO much to do… We get home from this vacation to Priest Lake next Monday, and then I fly out at 6am next Wednesday, June 27th, bound for Ethiopia. Next Wednesday is actually our 14th wedding anniversary. Not a romantic way to spend it (apart and all), but come on, it is a pretty awesome way to celebrate 14 years of marriage… on my way to claim our 4th child. God is so good! I arrive in Addis on Thursday night, and will spend Friday morning...

And so we wait….

This stage of the game is pretty much like the tail end of  pregnancy… NO SLEEP! Ethiopia is 10 hours ahead of us, so I know that any correspondence from the embassy is going to come across in the middle of the night. Therefore, I wake up pretty much every hour and check my email. I also am having a hard time with the fact that our son is in an orphanage…. We just want him home. So I often times just lay in bed wide awake, despite exhaustion. We finally found out that the US Embassy needs to conduct a phone interview with the police officer who filed Markon’s case. This...

Oh the wait….

Oh my word! I had forgotten how hard this part of the process is. Praise God,  on Tuesday, June 12th we were successfully submitted to the US Embassy (where we are applying for Markon’s Entrance Visa to come home). Within a few hours we received an email stating that they were beginning the I604 (Orphan Status Investigation), where they review and confirm Markon’s “story” to make sure he is a true, legal orphan. This process can take a few days, a few weeks, or a few months. Usually families hear from the embassy within a few days, with either an approval of the...

Confessions of a Glutton…

Posted by on Jun 10, 2012 in Misc Thoughts, Lessons and Experiences | 0 comments

Nesting is in full effect here at the Shadrick home. Markon’s paperwork is being submitted to the US Embassy on Tuesday, and hopefully we are just a few weeks away from bringing him home! With this nesting, comes purging too…. And with this purging comes some self reflection, and honestly, sadness. Gluttony (as take from W*k*ped*a): over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, drink, or wealth items to the point of extravagance or waste. In some Christian denominations, although not stated in the Bible, it is considered one of the seven deadly sins—a misplaced...
