Posted by on Oct 21, 2012 in At Home | 3 comments

Two years ago…On October 20th, 2010, we met Sarah for the first time.       Then… totally unexpected… One year ago, on October 20th, 2011, while in Ethiopia on a mission trip, Jason met our son, Markon…. Mark has been home for 3.5  months now, and it is going unbelievably well. Sarah is adjusting well with having a new baby, and is in fact really getting into playing “Mommy” with her own baby dolls. Sarah has 4 brown babies and 3 white babies. For a few months, her favorite dollies were clearly the “brown” ones, which she, on...

How We Cocooned without Cocooning…

Posted by on Aug 24, 2012 in At Home, Misc Thoughts, Lessons and Experiences | 4 comments

Like most adoptive parents, we attended adoption training seminars, and read many great books with well respected theories on how to prepare for and raise your adopted child. “Cocooning” is one of the most popular  methods for helping  your adopted child learn who mom and dad are, and become acclimated to their new world and family. In simple terms, cocooning is basically wiping your calendar clean and focusing on staying home/laying low with your adopted child. You don’t go to church, play dates, birthday parties, out to dinner, a friend’s house or even...

Apparently, such a season is upon us. My Dad, my sweet, stubborn, full of life Daddy….. has...

Since Markon has been home for one week, I thought I would sit down and reflect while I have a minute. Today we have some sweet friends (2 other YWAM Adoptive families that we met during Sarah’s adoption) coming over to hang out, and then tomorrow we leave for a vacation with them, so I will be M.I.A. for at least a few weeks. But, I wanted to share a few things… First off, Mark really is doing well, considering he is totally overwhelmed and probably in shock at his current situation. For the first 6 nights I had him, he screamed bloody murder for about 5 hours. It was hell....

Finally Home!

Posted by on Jul 9, 2012 in Adoption #2 - Markon | 3 comments

We arrived home on July 4th, and what a great day! I am still catching up on life, so I have to make this short and sweet, but here goes… Markon is dong great, but a little scared, poor thing. Sarah came home at 10 months, and Markon is 15 mo old, and we can tell a difference in their adjustment. Poor little guy just seems a bit overwhelmed and frightened. We are doing everything in our power to make sure he feels safe and loved. My time in Ethiopia was short and sweet. A total of 5 days. I spent some time with our friends at the Korah church, did a bit of shopping, but mostly just laid...
